Georgian Wine Tasting March 23 at Supra (Industry)

Hey friends, Nycci Nellis asked me to pass this along to VV friends: A couple of fantastic Georgian winemakers are going to be at Supra for a casual trade tasting: Gvantsa Abuladze (Baia’s Wine) and Gogi Dakishvili (Orgo). Noel is also flying in from Georgia, and they’re pouring through a range of wines from the portfolio — including some back vintages and new bottles.

It’s a drop-in tasting 12:30–2:30 pm, with snacks (they had me at khachapuri).

If you’re curious about Georgian wine — or just want to hang out and taste something interesting — details and RSVP are here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/trade-tasting-georgian-wine-with-visiting-winemakers-tickets-1983982167069

Would be fun to see you there!

Content creator partnerships with Virginia Wine

Hi Everyone!

I recently moved to DC from Napa Valley and am excited to start getting to know the wine community here. For the past several years I’ve worked in wine marketing with wineries in Napa, Sonoma, and Anderson Valley (www.socialwithmaura.com), and I’d love to connect with wineries, wine shops, and fellow wine lovers in the area.

I’m often asked for wine recommendations, so this spring and summer I’m hoping to put together a series highlighting great wines and wine regions around the DMV. I’m also planning a small “sundowner” tasting series on my rooftop to feature wines from around the world and share them on my Instagram (@maura.gfconcierge).

Which wineries, wine shops, or wine regions near DC should be on my radar? If anyone would like to connect or collaborate, I would love to meet you!

Hi Maura — welcome to DC! Excited to see more wine folks moving into the area.

I’ve been in DC for about 8 years and am a big wine enthusiast (I’m actually starting sommelier classes soon), so I love seeing people build community around wine here. Your rooftop sundowner tasting series sounds amazing — DC rooftops + good wine is always a winning combo.

A couple wine shops that have been my go-to spots:

• Wardman Wines – incredible selection and the staff are always down to talk through regions and producers. • Capitol Fine Wine and Spirits – another great neighborhood spot with thoughtful curation.

Some other DC spots that are great and might be worth connecting with:

• The Urban Grape – a Black-owned wine shop with a really intentional approach to how they organize wine using a “progressive scale” focused on body rather than traditional categories. • Domestique Wine – great natural and small-producer wines and they do tastings/events pretty regularly. • Cork Wine Bar & Market – fantastic wine bar with a really thoughtful list and market selection. • Grand Cata – focuses on wines and spirits from the African diaspora and Latin America.

Would love to connect sometime — just added your IG. Always happy to support wine initiatives in the city and share neighborhood recs as you get settled. Looking forward to seeing the tasting series come together!

Crowd surfing VA wineries for tour

Hello! I’m Chelle, a Deaf wine professional here in the DMV. I’ve had many requests from the local Deaf community to organize a winery tour in Virginia led in ASL, and I’m ready to make it happen!

Does anyone have recommendations for wineries or regions that are welcoming and have the space for a larger Deaf audience? Also, if any of you work at a winery and would love to partner with me on an accessible tasting experience, please reach out. I'd love to work together!

Hi Chelle! The Vineyards at Dodon is in Maryland, but we would LOVE to host your group. If you are open to a Maryland producer, please email me at regina@dodonvineyards.com and we can sort out the details. www.dodonvineyards.com
